<p class="wp-block-paragraph">本作はオープニングから防犯カメラに映った暴力シーンがひたすら連続で流れる、というものでこれがからりバイオレンスを醸し出しており、現実の暴力シーンなのかそれとも映画用に制作したものかはわかりませんが、女性の流血シーンだったり、銃で人を撃つシーンだったり、バットで人を殴るシーンだったりと年齢区分18歳以上の成人指定の映画らしく、かなり刺激的な暴力シーンがいきなり画面に映し出される感じです。</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">これはまるで「この映画はこういう暴力的な映画ですよ。苦手な人は観ないでくださいね」と警告しているように感じられます。</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">ちなみに「purge」という英単語には「粛清する、一掃する、洗い清める」といった意味があります。社会における汚点と言えるような人間たちを、年に１度のこの夜に「一掃し、洗い清めたい」とでも言いたいのでしょうか。</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">そして<strong>「パージ」の犠牲になるのは貧困層</strong>となっています。あらゆる犯罪が合法化される「パージ」の夜、その犠牲になるのは身を守る手段を持たない貧困層です。</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>「パージ」のおかげで財をなした人間が、「パージ」の標的になるという皮肉</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">今作の主人公であるイーサン・ホーク演じる主人公ジェームズ・サンディンは住宅に設置する防犯装置のセールスマンで、自分の子供たちに「パージは街の犯罪率を下げてくれる素晴らしい制度だ」などと説教するほどのパージ支持者です。それはサンディン家は豪邸にクラス富裕層であり、富裕層はパージの夜でも、ふんだんにお金をかけた警備設備に守られた家に閉じこもっていれば基本的には安全です。</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">しかし自分の息子がパージの標的となっていた貧困層の男を匿ってしまったがゆえに、自分自身がパージの標的になってしまうという、皮肉な展開になります。さらに不幸なことに、自分がセールスマンの口八丁で売りまくっていた不完全な防犯装置がやぶられ、パージャー（パージの参加者）たちに家に侵入される、という二重の皮肉が待っています。</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">ジェームズ・サンディンは近隣の富裕層に防犯装置を売りまくって財をなしたセールスマンであり、なぜ防犯装置が売れまくったのか、それは年に1度のパージがあるからにほかなりません。いわばマッチポンプ式の商売だったのです。</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>低予算ながら大ヒットした映画</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">ストーリーは基本的にイーサン・ホーク演じるジェームズ・サンディンの家の中のみで繰り広げられるドラマです。派手な爆発シーンなどもなく、俳優以外は低予算B級感を感じます（実際に制作費は300万ドルです）。しかしながら演出面はB級かというとそうではなく、緊迫感ある音楽などで緊張感を演出する手法はかなり上手いと言えます。</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">それに対して最終的な世界興行収入は8,900万ドル以上を稼ぎだしました。初期投資に対するリターンがものすごいですね。ちなみに「ジュラシックワールド」第1作目の制作費が1億5,000万ドルと言われていますので、ジュラシックワールドの50分の１の低予算で作られた映画、ということになりますね。</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>イーサン・ホークとレナヘディが夫婦役で出演</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">アカデミー助演男優賞に2度ノミネートされた名優、イーサン・ホークと、大人気ファンタジードラマ「ゲーム・オブ・スローンズ」でサーセイ・ラニスター役を演じたことで有名なレナ・ヘディが夫婦役で出演しています。</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">レナ・ヘディが演じる主人公の妻、メアリー・サンディンは、サーセイ・ラニスターのような強烈な存在感を放つ女性ではなく、本当にごく普通の、少し神経質そうな主婦です。</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>気になったところ</strong></h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">設定は面白いですが色々雑なところはあります。</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>あまりにもあっさりとパージャーたちの侵入を許すサンディン家</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">「パージ」の夜に集団に襲撃されるリスクがあるなら、窓ガラス全てに鉄格子を付けて防御する必要があると思いますが、あっさりガラスを割られて色々な箇所からの侵入を許している。これは明らかにおかしいと思いました。</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>パージャーたちが全員、不気味な笑顔の仮面を被っている</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>パージの夜は全ての犯罪が合法化される</strong>。ということは、顔を隠す必要がまったくないのに、仮面を被っているというのは、全く意味がないことをやっていることになります。何か儀式的な意味合いなのでしょうか？あえたホラーを出している？</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>パージの夜の殺戮に女性たちも楽しそうに参加している</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">パージに参加する、という行為は、「自分も殺されるリスクが常にある」ということを意味します。それにも関わらず女性たちが刃物を持って楽しそうにパージに参加、しかも自分が殺されるかもしれないという危機感を感じない行動には、やはり違和感をおぼえました。</p>
